Code of Conduct

Stockholm Fringe Festival
25th August - 1st of September 2024

Statement

A democratic and safe environment for all to engage in! STOFF's project group and the executive board make decisions based on democratic values. Everyone on the team is encouraged and invited to promote a healthy work environment while striving to refine and further develop the festival's nature and direction. We encourage and expect a similar process to be practised within our partner organisations.

STOFF can't tell anyone what you say, think, or feel. However, it is dedicated to upholding a safe space for all and deeply rooted respect for everyone's right to be who they are.

We educate all our staff and lovely volunteers annually about the festival's values. This includes everyone who works with us during our annual festival, and all branches of the organisation, such as ARENA STOFF, STOFFNET, and YOUNG STOFF, plus all our external events via the Nordic Fringe Network (NFN). This includes our 2024 sister events Stolt Scenkonst, Swestage, Theatre in Palm (TIP) and the World Fringe Congress (WFC).

Everyone who is part of our team signs a STOFF staff declaration form that includes all the typical notions, such as:

  1. While performing at STOFF, or being on duty and wearing a STOFF Crew badge and cap, you’re an ambassador for the Stockholm Fringe Festival (STOFF)!

  2. STOFF is an equal opportunity organisation that accepts and respects people regardless of age, race, gender, or sexual orientation. One should not discriminate against cast, crew, audience, or Team STOFF members.

  3. Team Stoff handles the personal data of cast and crew participating in STOFF. It’s forbidden to spread or in any way abuse the information presented to staff during the festival's production.

  4. The STOFF executive board and project management group work actively to embody the notion of equality. We strive to have a gender-balanced representation in our festival program curator team, the artistic program, and during media engagements. What bodies and voices are elevated on our stages is always on our minds.

  5. Our festival prides itself on welcoming, celebrating, and elevating narratives from near and far. Anyone with a project they’d like to share with an audience can submit their artistic proposal for STOFF consideration.

  6. In our town, it's all about space. We work year-round with our partners to creatively think outside the box and find solutions to enable more creatives to find performing spaces and existing creative spaces to flourish with new acts and audiences.

  7. We know how expensive it is to rent a stage in Stockholm. Our mission is to open up the cultural landscape to artists who aren’t privileged to run their own venues. Unlike many other fringes, we hire or negotiate free-of-charge performing places and spaces for all our programmed acts. All venues come with essential tech, tech support, and volunteers. A relatively modest admin fee is applied to ticket sales to cover some of the box office costs and credit card handling fees.

  8. Why are we curated? We would include all submitted artistic proposals in our annual program if we could. Due to a limited budget, a maximum of 60-100 acts a year end up in our program. Therefore, we try to assemble a program that delivers a multidisciplinary offering with a good mix of genders, origins, and ages - represented on and off stage.

  9. We program loads of content that can be enjoyed regardless of the language you speak. We keep our ticket prices very affordable to allow people of various socio-economic backgrounds to have access to cultural experiences.

  10. In Addition to ALL of the above, here is our more detailed CODE OF CONDUCT document that all participants an and off stage are obliged to adhere to: LINK TO PDF (coming April 5th 2024)
